An anti-terrorism court accepted on Wednesday a report submitted by the law enforcers declaring the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader and former Sindh lawmaker, Nadeem Hashmi, as innocent after completing investigations.
The investigating officer, Inspector Hussain Mehdi, told the court that the police and the joint investigation team found no concrete evidence against the suspect during the course of investigation so far. Hashmi was arrested as a suspect for the murder of two policemen in North Nazimabad. He was booked under the anti-terror law.
Mehdi, while requesting the court to accept the report to release Hashmi, said that he could be included in the investigations at any stage of the case if any evidence was found against him. Hashmi was released under section 497 (ii) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
