Of bullet proof cars: Check tax returns of VIPs, says TIP

TIP has urged income tax watchdog to ensure that all such parties file full income tax returns.

Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) has urged FBR Chairman Tariq Bajwa to ensure that all VIPs pay the full amount of income taxes they owe to the national treasury and in case of nonpayment of taxes; FBR takes action against them to recover the outstanding taxes, as well as, a penalty. Referring to news published in newspapers on September 17, 2013 which details bullet proof cars, costing tens of millions in some cases, imported by a number of VIPs including businesspersons and politicians, TIP has urged income tax watchdog to ensure that all such parties file full income tax returns and not deprive the national exchequer of the due tax.

The issue is that in a country faced with extreme dangers, what services have these better-protected souls — many of them elected to serve the people — been able to offer to the public? Answer - none.
