
At least four people were killed in separate incidents of targeted killings in the city on Monday.
A former Union Council nazim and activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Iqbal, 30, son of Iqrar, was shot dead in Sector 11-E within the limits of Mominabad police station. Police said that the victim was employed at the Zonal Municipal Committee and was a resident of the same area. His body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.
Separately, a retired police sub-inspector was killed and his son was injured by unidentified assailants when they were travelling on their motorcycle in Orangi Town, Dabla Bazar, within the limits of Mominabad police station.
Police said the incident occurred when the retired sub-inspector, Muhammad Bux, 62, and his son, Kashif, were travelling through the bazaar. They added that the motive behind the incident could be personal enmity.
In another incident, a police constable, Mushtaq, 35, was shot dead in front of the Mominabad Police Station where he was stationed. According to police sources, the victim was coming back to the police station from the city court when he was intercepted by unknown assailants outside the police station who opened fire at him, killing him on the spot. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem.
In a separate incident, Surjani Town Police found the dead body of a man bearing torture marks from near the bushes at Khuda ki Basti. The police also found a note in his pocket, bearing the name, Asif. The identity of the deceased, however, has yet to be determined.
