The Karachi Traffic Police has started an SMS service to provide information to commuters regarding traffic flow and to advise them on the best alternate route to take in case of traffic congestion.
The SMS service is free with one-time subscription charges of Rs0.5. Traffic DIG Abdul Khaliq Sheikh said that he got the idea of starting SMS traffic updates from the instant messaging services available for paying bills. “We will send a message to all the subscribers after every 10 minutes.”
Commuters can also call a toll-free number 1915 for updates.

False statement, "We will send a message to all the subscribers after every 10 minutes." it's one time only, mean for each time you send sms you pay and you get one response.
How to unsubscribe?
Dear All,
You all are miss guided, actually the sms cost is only 50 paisa and its not on subscription basis but on request basis. For instance if you want to know the traffic conditions in karachi, you just not to type T and send sms on 8655 and then you will get an sms alert that will tell you the current situation. Apart of that, you will not receive further sms updates unless you request on 8655.
Further, the traffic police and company did not had any intention to earn money because 50 paisa is the normal sms cost that oprators charge. Kindly be optimistic and and give possitive comments. Indeed we all want to be a better society and whoever trying to move forward the human race to the next step, please dont try to stop them. Its us who make change and make a better place to live. No hard feelings. Live long pakistan.
Really old fashion, they just want to make money of SMS, y not make an Mobile app and make it free for ppl, Its just another way of stealing money from ppl. Im sure the service will not work half the time.
While this is a great idea...please do think about the following scenarios regarding frequency of smses:
someone sitting in an important meeting someone praying in a mosque someone about to run out of charge on their mobile phones and saving that last "bar" for the untimate important phone call....Suggestion: like someone also commented before me...on request traffic update.....something like....I send "T" on the given number and i get instant update about traffic at the moment.
Nonetheless good job of thinking about this....atleast someone somewhere in the Govt is "thinking" for the good of the people :)
Oh no I subscribed it...will I be getting a msg every 10 mins???
I was about to subscribe to this when the DIG gave it away... an sms every 10 minutes? No way!
Traffic updates through SMS after every 10 minutes ??? are you serious that means that your phone will be ringing after every 10 minutes ?? foolish thinking.. make this service "on request traffic updates"
Oye hoye.. lash.!!
