Smuggling bid foiled: Police arrest two, recover 6,000 cartridges

Smugglers were intercepted on GT Road while attempting to transport ammunition from Darra Adam Khel to Punjab.

PESHAWAR: Police foiled an attempt to smuggle thousands of cartridges from Darra Adam Khel to Punjab in a vehicle, and arrested two smugglers red-handed on the Grand Trunk Road in Hashtnagari, on Thursday.

Local police had received information of a gang attempting to smuggle ammunition from Darra Adam Khel on a road which has numerous check points established along it.

When a suspected motor car was stopped at one of the check points, the police search recovered 6,000 cartridges of different bores from secret cavities inside the car.

"The accused have been identified as Sajjad and Fakir Nawaz, residents of Pishtakahra and Namak Mandi respectively," said an official at the local police station.

"They told us that the ammunition was being smuggled to Punjab."

The official added that an FIR has been registered against the criminals.
