KARACHI: In a bid to strengthen mutual ties and promote peace and harmony in the region, the German Consulate in Karachi, in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut, is hosting a series of 17 events, under the banner of ‘German Weeks’. The events will run up to the end of November.

The events include concerts, lectures, a round-table conference, theatre performances, a stamp exhibition and much more. “The law and order situation is deteriorating with each passing day. We hope to bring positivity in the city through cultural activities like these,” said the German Consul General Dr Tilo Klinner while briefing the media on German Weeks on Tuesday.

Dr Kilman hoped that the events would bring about a positive energy among the younger generation and also promote bilateral ties between the two nations.

The series of events kicked off on Wednesday with a lecture by Dr Christian Wagner, a senior fellow and head of research at the German Institute’s Asia Division, titled ‘SAARVC and Pakistan’, at the Gothe Institute.

The events will include a concert featuring the rising Pakistani musician, Asif Khan, who will perform with German Jazz band, Underkarl, on September 17 at the German consulate. Other events in the series include a seminar on the archaeological heritage of Sindh and a round-table conference to discuss the ties between Pakistan and European nations. The programme will end on November 28 with a stamp exhibition, ‘German History Illustrated by Stamps’, on November 28.
