FAISALABAD: Five people drowned in River Jhelum, in the Jhang police area, on Saturday. Police said that Parveen Bibi, a resident of Uliyana, was crossing the river with her six-month old son Allah Ditta and daughter Mehak, 3. They were going to meet Parveen Bibi’s sister who lived across the river, when their boat capsized and they drowned. Rescue divers fished their bodies out of the river and handed them over to their family. In another incident, two friends Abdur Raheem, 12, and Shahzaib, 13, both residents of Basti Ghuggay Wala, were fishing in the river when they slipped and drowned. Rescue divers managed to recover their bodies and took them to Jhang District Headquarters Hospital for a post mortem.
