FAISALABAD:

Two people were seriously injured on Friday as a result of celebratory firing at a wedding ceremony in Saddar police’s area.

Police said the injured, Razzaq Masih, 45, and Saleem Masih, 35, were at the wedding of Boota Masih’s daughter when some people in the bridegroom’s party fired in the air to celebrate the wedding. The injured were taken to divisional headquarters hospital where their condition was later reported to be critical.

Dr Abid Hussain at the hospital’s emergency ward told the media that the injured were in coma.  “We have kept them in intensive care unit…their condition is critical,” he added.Zargham Masih, a witness, said the village elders attending the ceremony had warned the guests against shooting in the air. “Those who fired the shots were under the influence of alcohol,” he added.

Zargham said the men fled immediately after they realised that two men had gotten injured.

When contacted, the Saddar SHO said the police had not received a complaint.

“We can only take action if a complaint is filed or if we receive medical examination reports of the victims,” he said.
