The meeting was presided over by PTI chief Imran Khan, who announced that the party would also launch a protest against the act.
Express News correspondent Mohammad Ilyas reported that PTI was opposed to the idea of conducting local bodies' elections on non-party basis.
The party also denounced the dictatorial powers allotted to Punjab Chief Minister, who would enjoy discretion over matters like appointment of officials in the proposed Education Authority, or the expulsion of administrators from local bodies - town and district committees - even if they were elected into their offices.
According to reports, PTI has conducted several meetings with opposition parties Jamaat-e-Islami and People's Party already and plan further alliances on the issue. PTI members are still examining the various clauses of the act and intend to unite with other parties in raising voice against the objectionable parts of the act.

LB elections are held on party basis in UK, USA and most Western democracies. Everyone of us should be demanding for empowered local councils to have our issues sorted at our door step. No MPA/MNA/ CM would like to see this happening as it would take their power away. People elected on non- party basis can be influenced and inducted into the party ( obviously PML N) employing different tactics.
It is unfortunate that we don't look inward to contribute and indulge in criticism only. Let us try to do something no matter how small to promote National solidarity.
Methinks even I am sure that Imran Khan is afraid of defeat in non-party basis local government's elections in Punjab as has been faced defeat in 2013's general elections on NA's and Provincial assemblies' seats in Pakistan most especially importantly in Punjab this is why Imran Khan is going to challenge Punjab local government act in court.....
This is such a non-issue. The whole puropose of local bodies is to have people elected in your areas to help you on local bais. There is absolutely no reason one way or other that part bases or non party based is better. The crux of the matter here is taht people are getting to elect some one that is closer to their home and to whom they can approach when they need help and eventually people make these people accountable.
It just doesnt matter if Mr. X of Party Y wins in LG elections, rather if Mr. X did the right thing or not.
According to our constitution it is illegal for the CM to have all these powers and SC had to intervene to start local body elections. But then when does PMLn care for legalities.
yaaaawn!! another day same "dhaandhli". IK every day you continue such theatrics you erode your voter base.
What is wrong with allowing parties as well as independents to contest? Will that not be the most democratic way? Good leaders cannot be elected, they must be selected against qualifications by service commissions. I think we will get better leadership when we change to this track.
IK is against everything. The question is, does he stand for anything?
Have to agree with PTI on this one , non party elections dont make any type of sense.
Even in India also we have non party based local election which is a good thing. it gives opportunity to different section of society to come forward and share power. it has been very successful. I support this considering the fact that social structure at local level is not very different in pakistan.
The more rights you give to local government the more power you take away from Provincial government. The Sharif's have not learnt to devolve power democratically. Non party LGs are not workable which is precisely what PMLN or at least Shehbaz desires.
The reported numbers of Dengue cases in Swat has reached over 2,500 and yet this guy is concerned about Punjab, a province which has vehemently rejected him. Instead of beating around the bush and engaging in senseless chest thumping, he should either take his CM to task or start calling him Dengue Khattak.
For starters, PTI/IK perhaps should educate us why LB elections MUST be on party basis. I live in Canada, and here these elections are INDEED held on non-party basis.
Dear Imran Khan, we know that terrorism is a very small issue and Taliban had only killed 40 thousand innocent Pakistanis which is not that much, that is not a big crime rather a small crime. If you could please criticize Taliban for their little crimes we will be grateful.
@Ezio Auditore: So true! Unfortunately illiteracy and lack of knowledge of relevant laws are PMLN's biggest allies in Punjab.
PMLn punjab supporters should thank IK for rising up for their rights!!!!.... :)
for your information mr Azmat Ali KPK and Sindh are holding local bodies elections on party party basis. Why is PMLN is scared of facing other parties in punjab
@Azmat Ali: You are terribly wrong. Please do yourself a favor and educate yourself with the facts before posting haphazard comments.
Protest, challenge, dharna, sharmnak------ PTI Self explanatory.
a good decision by PTI
Even though PTIs stance is right, and pro democracy..haters are still going to hate on PTI. Sad.
Fed up from PTI. They have no agenda.
Whatever! The acrimony of PP-150 is still hurting Tehreek-e-Ilzam badly. KPK is yet to unveil its Local Body Bill and yet IK is so concerned as what is happening in the rest of planet earth. Clean your own house first.
What about Pukhtunkhwa where the Local Body Elections are also Non Party based in first step which is the main step and then Party based... Really Biased.
Can't think of any possible reason why Punjab government is going for Non party based LG elections. They never get tired of advocating democracy but their own acts put them to shame. I think not only PTI but every party should protest against it.
