Karachi Operation: Deadline passes without any action

Suspects included seven alleged target killers belonging to different political parties and banned outfits.

KARACHI: Police and Rangers collectively managed to apprehend around three dozen suspected criminals as the federal government’s deadline to launch an operation to restore the city’s law and order expired on Friday. The paramilitary force, Rangers, whose primary job is to secure the country’s borders, has been given the mandate to conduct the operation while the police will provide backup support. Around 25 suspects were apprehended in separate targeted raids by Rangers in different parts of the city. According to the Rangers’ spokesperson, the raids were conducted in Korangi, Sultanabad, Gulshan-e-Ghazi, Gulberg, Liaquatabad, Manzur Colony and MA Jinnah Road. The suspects included seven alleged target killers belonging to different political parties and banned outfits as well as four extortionists.
