A consumer court has issued a notice to the general manager of Millat Tractors and the proprietor of Khokhar Autos on a suit seeking damages of Rs2,055,000 from the two companies for allegedly selling the petitioner a defective tractor.
Kaleem Anwar submitted that he had bought a Massey Ferguson tractor, model MF260, from Khokhar Autos, a certified Millat Tractor dealer, on May 26, 2012. The purchase was aided by financing from the Agriculture Development Bank branch in Bhai Pheru, Kasur district.
Anwar said that the tractor malfunctioned after just five hours of use. He said that he returned to Khokhar Autos to get a replacement part and was referred to the warranty centre. On July 27, he said, he went to the warranty centre to complain that the tractor was using an excessive amount of fuel and emitting black smoke. The complaints, he said, were addressed half-heartedly.
He said that he went to the warranty centre again on October 25, but staff there did not help him. He alleged that even though he had used the tractor for just 50 hours by then, staff at the warrant centre wrote 150 hours of use on the warranty claim.
He sought a replacement tractor, but was not provided one, he said. He asked the court to direct the respondents to pay him Rs2,055,000 as compensation for loss of business, stress and damages.
