RAWALPINDI:

Rawalpindi’s Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Wednesday awarded two death sentences to a man for murdering a police constable during a raid on a drug den in Jhanda Chichi in 2012.

The court also sentenced another person to 10 years in prison and acquitted two others including a woman.

ATC Special Judge Rana Masood Akhter presided over the trial of Imran alias Mani and sentenced him to be hanged.

The judge also awarded 10 years imprisonment to Mani’s brother Arif, while their mother and another brother, Shamrez, were released.

According to the prosecution, Mani and his family members had killed Kamran, a police constable in the Civil Lines Police Station and injured four other police constables when authorities raided a drug den in the Jhanda Chichi area in Rawalpindi last year.

The accused started firing on the police party to avoid arrest, according to the prosecution official.

A murder case was registered against Mani, his brothers and mother for murdering the constable. The accused had confessed to the crime during the police investigation.
