In overnight raids conducted in different villages, Ghotki police apprehended six people over their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of two residents of Karachi which took place four days ago.

The two kidnapped persons, Ehsanullah and Iqbal Majeed Jat, residents of Karachi, had gone to Ghotki at the behest of Kauro Khan who had reportedly promised them jobs in a multinational company.

According to police sources, when the men reached Ghotki, they were told to meet Khan’s aide, Qadir Bux alias Qadoo Lund. The two met Bux at Jarwar Link Road who escorted them to village Qadoo Lund and kidnapped them at gunpoint. He later contacted their families through their cell phones and demanded ransom money for their release.

The victims’ families informed Karachi police about the matter who, with the help of Ghotki police, started investigating the matter and traced the phone calls back to a location in Ghotki.

On Wednesday, one of the victim’s family members, Mohammad Iqbal, arrived in Ghotki to pay the ransom money to secure the victims’ release. Upon reaching Yaroo Lund, Iqbal called Kauro Khan who asked him to meet him. Taking advantage of the situation, police raided the site and apprehended Kauro Khan while Qadir Bux managed to escape. Police raided other villages and reportedly arrested four other suspects, but failed to rescue the kidnapped persons.

Mirpur Mathelo DSP Mushtaq Qureshi told The Express Tribune that they had arrested Kauro Khan but denied making other arrests. He said that the police had cordoned off village Qadoo Lund but had not been able to rescue the kidnapped persons yet.
