The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) on Monday announced on its official facebook page that it has sent notices to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) that it was disconnecting power to four public parks, a library and a pipe factory for non-payment of dues.

According to a notice posted on their Facebook page, the KESC claimed that the parks, library and factory owed the power company close to Rs170 million in dues. The notices were sent for Bagh-e-Ibn-e-Qasim, Benazir Bhutto Park, Liaquat Hall Library, Pipe Factory Dalmia, Jheel Park and Hill Park.

KESC added that the KMC owes the company a total of Rs1.7 billion in unpaid dues.

Last week, the KESC had sent final disconnection notices to the KMC and Sindh Police (Rs1 billion) for their outstanding dues.

Subsequently the power company cut off power to the offices of KMC, Bus Terminal, Yousuf Goth, KMC Head Office, Slaughter House Cattle Colony Landhi and Slaughter House North Karachi.

Offices of Sindh Police were also disconnected, Garden Head Quarter, Baldia Training Centre and DIG License Branch Office Clifton.

More offices to be disconnected if dues are not cleared.

The Express Tribune, earlier reported, August 28, the KESC had earlier disconnected power supply to the Pakistan Steel Mills, which was later restored after the payment of pending bills.

The company has repeatedly complained about the financial crisis it faces due to the unavailability of funds, which is a direct result of non-payment of bills by public sector entities.

The News, reported, August 29, the KESC disconnected power supply to the residential colony of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) for not clearing the dues amounting to Rs23.5 billion despite various reminders.

The KESC said it had sent last notice on August 20 and warned the KWSB that in case of non-payment the electricity of their residential colony would be disconnected as a plenty.

But the officials of the water utility did not respond to the final notice, the power utility added.

Why only parks? Why not the palaces and offices of Governor, CM and ministers?
