Members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party had gathered en masse at Charring Cross and Mall Road in a protest against alleged rigging during by-elections in the PP-150.
After acting Chief Election Commissioner Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani took suo moto notice of the protests and summoned all the candidates to plead their cases, the Election Commission of Pakistan ordered a recount on Wednesday.
By-elections which were held across the country on August 22 had seen a very close contest in the Punjab Assembly constituency between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)'s Mian Marghoob and PTI's Mahr Wajid.
The PML-N had emerged victorious with 18,870 votes against PTI candidate’s 18,494.
