NOWSHERA:

A man was killed and his wife severely injured in Akora Khattak, Nowshera on Wednesday, in what seemed to be a case of honour killing.

Rukhsana Bibi filed a case with the police stating she eloped with Younas from Kohistan three months ago and married him without her family’s consent. In order to avoid a dispute with her family, she and her husband decided to settle in Nandrako Kallay, Nowshera district.

However, her family followed her to Nowshera. According to Rukhsana, five of her family members barged into her house at 2am on Wednesday. They physically assaulted the couple and then opened fire, killing Younas on the spot and injuring her.

Shakeel Khan, an official at Akora Khattak police station, said neighbours shifted the couple to the District Headquarters Hospital. However, the accused identified as Abdul Wali, Saddam, Umer Daraz, Akhtar Naseer and Gul Zarin managed to escape after the attack.

Police have filed a case against them and an investigation is underway.
