Stray dogs have become a nuisance for residents of areas under Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) control. Dog bite cases have become a common occurrence, as stray dogs can be seen on roads and streets in areas including Allama Iqbal Colony, Tench Bhatta, Dhok Syedan, Kiani Road, RA Bazaar and other RCB localities.
The residents said that they were not only scared of walking on roads and streets but also afraid of letting their children go outside to play.
“The number of stray dogs in our area is increasing with each passing day”, said Tariq, a resident of the People’s Colony.
Amina, a resident of Kiani Road, said that the dogs often attack at night. “I always keep my doors locked and never allow my children to go out to play,” she said.
“The stray dogs are usually seen around garbage heaps during the day, and on roads and streets at night,” said Altaf, a resident of Dhoke Syedan. He said that the stray dogs usually roam in packs and became violent when they come across pedestrians, especially at night.
He said that the authorities had run campaigns again stray dogs in the past, but no such drive has been taken recently.
