Reports suggested that the ASWJ spokesperson Maulana Akbar Saeed Farooqui was returning from a rally organised by the organisation in Lasbela Chowk when the gunmen opened fire near University Road.
Farooqui was immediately shifted to Liaquat National Hospital where his condition was declared to be critical. Sources from the hospital confirmed that Farooqui had suffered two gun wounds in the head.
Supporters of ASWJ soon surrounded the hospital where the spokesperson succumbed to his injuries.
"Doctors had declared him to be in a critical state and had refused to provide any assurances," reported Express News correspondent Nadeem Ahmad.
"The gunmen were astride a motorcycle and could not be recognised because they were wearing helmets," said Ahmad, adding that they fled soon after the incident.

@Gp65: Thank you very much for the info. Did not know this.
Someone really wants Pakistan to turn into south Asia's version of Syria and Iraq. With such inefficient and incapable political leadership at national and provincial levels, there might be further escalation expected instead of any betterment.
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: Sir, its just a FILE PHOTO.
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: This is just a stock photo which ET uses for all such news. Regardless of this photo, we can see from any live coverage after any incident, our police does not collect evidence professionally.

Its not a rocket science to trace killers of this guy. Read his statements and figure out against whom he was spreading hate.
@lawless: But do they (PAC) hold rallies or just operate underground?
'Friendly fire' between two 'strategic assets' !
Why do they even use Maulana before their names. Its a disgrace to learned scholars. People with guns and killing intentions no matter which sect they belong to, must be quoted in the news as Dahshatgard before their names.
Govt should not let them use the name "Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat" , they have nothing to do with ahle sunnat.. they are the Terrorists and nothing else..
inna lillah-e-wa inna elaehi rajeun!
May Allah SWT bless his soul and protect our Ullemas.

@Raj - USA: Yes. And so is Peoples Aman Committee
ASWJ is a banned organization. Rehman Malik issued government notification banning this organization in 2012 for its involvement in terrorist activities. Yet ASWJ is holding rallies openly.
It is just mind boggling that the police officer will pick up spent cartages with his bare hands which will contaminate the evidence. Any one could see the logic of collecting evidence carefully and use surgical gloves and only those officers should handle the evidence who are trained to do so. These spent cartages could have finger prints of the murderers and be a very crucial evidence in the court of law.I am appalled to see the blood on his hands too. I suppose life is so cheap in Pakistan that no body really cares or the people are so used to these murders that to them it is another statistic.
