Necessary Precautions: ‘Sindh govt braces for floods’

Sindh information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that, in view of the heavy rains and flood threats, the irrigation department has declared 46 locations along the River Indus as sensitive. The provincial government will be monitoring the water levels round-the-clock at these sites.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Memon said that the provincial government had made comprehensive arrangements to cope with the damages caused by the rains and flooding in the province.

He said that the affected people were being shifted to safer areas while medical camps had been established in the rain and flood-affected areas. “The Sindh government has provided medicines, especially malaria-preventive medicines, to the affected areas,” he said.

Memon said that rations, medicines, tents, mosquito nets and other essentials had been distributed among the affected people and generators had also been provided to the pumping stations to drain out the standing water.
