Flood victim dies during Watan card stampede

A young man died after allegedly being beaten-up by police during a stampede by desperate flood victims.

LAHORE: A young man died after allegedly being beaten-up by police in Shehr Sultan precinct of South Punjab today (Wednesday).

Nazeer Ahmed was part of the crowd vying to get hold of a Watan Card which are currently being distributed for relief to flood victims. Police resorted to a baton-charge to control a stampede which broke out as a result of desperate flood victims trying to register for their cards.

The family of the deceased protested outside Rural Hospital Shahr Sultan, and demanded that the government take action against the lethal force used by police.

Earlier this week, over 1,000 flood victims in Dera Ghazi Khan protested against the district administration and the government for not receiving Watan Cards.

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued over 300,000 Watan cards to families who were affected in the floods so far.

And those who’s status is marrige.but this is fact that people are in that critaria of NADRA those people are not approchable for watan card.this is totaly rong policy . people who r not effected who’s are able to get watan card but actual affected people are deprived. plz plz plz students of universeties who want to compleat thesis. do tbesis on this issu/topic. and show to the higher authority to take some positive steps for the real rehabilitation of desaster people. shahbaz khan | 14 years ago | Reply the policy to disribute watan cards among flood effected people is appreciateable.But the way used for its distribution is harmful for real flood effected people.NADRA issued the watan card lists on the written address basis on CNIC.More of real beneficiaries remained deprived by effected this policy because they lost their crops and houses in their fields but their residence is in another Moza which is not effected by flood.loss is loss while it is crops damage loss or shelter damage loss.On another side the people faced no kind of loss but are granted watan card on the basis of residencial address.The people of shaher sultan district muzaffer garh are protest for this harmful policy.A man is died yesterday for seeking watan card but remain empty hands,lost his life but we say he died for his people,for the sake of clear distribution in real benificieries.
