Fifteen people fell ill after drinking liquor on Saturday night and had been shifted to a hospital. Ten of those brought in lost their lives during treatment, while the condition of five is reported to be critical.
The name of one victim who died as a result of the toxic liquor was reported as Saqib, according to police officials.
Police officials have arrested two alleged liquor suppliers responsible for the poisonous liquor in the area, and have sealed off their houses. Officials have been ordered to search the area for other such liquor suppliers.
Wine shops have remained closed in Karachi since four different wine shops were targeted in Karachi within an hour on August 7, leading to an increase in the sales of poisonous and harmful liquor through the black market and amateur brewers.
The wine shops were targeted in Khayaban-e-Muslim, Khayaban-e-Rahat, Seaview in Defence Housing Authority and near Moti Mahel in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

love red wine
@sahir:
really? u think so?
@Rayhan Baloch: Let's just say, they allow it then what. Is that going to fix the problem? You will see a lot more deaths from DWIs. Legalizing it will not solve this problem. It will start another. The government can't/shouldn't be so short sighted.
@Lyari Resident: Isn't it easier to go on personal attack than talking about the issue at hand. What people mean when they say 'a muslim will never do that' is that a momin is not supposed to drink liquor.
You will see muslims eating pork, drinking liquor, doing drugs, and gambling ie stuff prohibited in Islam. But just because muslims do that doesn't mean they are allowed in Islam. The difference between a muslim and a momin is huge. You can NOT call yourself a momin AND do what is prohibited in Islam. But having said that, no one should judge another person. But please, don't let me stop you from trolling. Carry on.
Ban You Tube, internet, liquor, gun, Indian movie, porn site, blasphemous sites, Jews site etc etc what happen to self control and what happened to freedom of choice,. Why a guy wearing beard has to decide everything for you? It should be other way around. He should change with time and educate people about self control. Yeah but then life will be too boring for certain people. No control over other people's food, drink, education, schooling, bedroom, marriage blah blah. Get your control back folks.
The only solution is to remove the ban on alcoholic drinks, the government can earn billions of rupees in taxes which it is loosing due to the smuggled alcohol. A lot of countries sold alcohol trough controlled means, which Pakistan is doing trough the couple of breweries and government licensed stores in Sindh and Balochistan and have been earning taxes handsomely. Now is the right time to remove the ban on the import of alcoholic beverages and it shall be taxed heavily as it would discourage people from taking up drinking and in case they want to exercise their choice they would be able to procure it.
@sahir: * No Muslim would consume alcohol on Eid day.* Really? I am a muslim living in UK and I was drinking wine on Eid day. This is because it is scientifically proven that drinking red wine in moderation helps healthy heart. Have you ever wondered why muslims have the highest rate of heart attacks?
@Ali If a random person blows himself it is not religion's fault, unfortunately people have been made to believe this but that's a different topic, I am not blaming the society for the usual alcohol consumption, but these underprivileged that are finding it very difficult to make ends meet, their problems are piling up day by day and the pressure/stress sometimes make them resort to cheap drugs, alcohol etc and that's where the people/state should have done something more to assist them in getting through life, like they do here in the west. Hope you got the point!
only 10??
@Sheryar Farooqui: If a random person blows himself up, it's religion's fault, If a random person dies by drinking liquer, it's society at fault. How convenient. Everyone can make decision, good or bad it's their personal choice. Don't blame someone else.
What sort of country we live in seriously!
@ sahir ,sure son...He has to be a hindu because he consumed Wine becoz no true muslim from the land of pure ( Pakistan ) can ever do it. Because Muslims in Pakistan are as innocent as cows. They are the purest breead of muslims ever born, ever purer then born in Mecca. Muslims in Pakistan don't fight or kill each other. and you can see the peace & love making sighs all over Pakistan everyday when a silly cracker explodes. Muslims of Pakistan are truly out of the Earth. so only Christians ,sikhs and Hindus are responsible for all the mess happening in Pakistan.. Oh I forgot the Jews and the americans ...and Wait the British...and the French..Ah so many kafirs nations ..pakistan rocks !
@zulfiqar: why only to ban toxic liquior, why not ban the whole alcohol businesses
@sahir: You have no idea brother, that you will find more muslims in the line of wine shop than non muslims
Really "no muslim would consume alcohol on eid", what a Joke this is, stop living in a delusional state
if you dont believe me go to your nearest wine store lol
our country is called Islamic republic and alcoholic drinks are easily available. don't islamic law prohibit sale and consumption of alcohol? the bitter truth is that all our politicians, bureaucrats and many others are addicted to alcohol. they are so called muslims. our country only needs pure Islamic law which prohibits all anti Islamic things.
@I am a Khan: Why no such punishment for those who drink comfortably in Abraj Al Bait Tower (aka Makkah Clock Tower Hotel) right in front of House of Allah?
Ban Toxic liquor........
What a sad ending for these people however it was the duty of the people or state to take care of them, educate them, warn them.....we will have people raising fingers like serves them right for breaking the divine law etc etc, but their death is also the responsibility of privileged muslims for not doing enough to try and prevent this, we should be sad and disappointed, divine laws are broken all over the world, divine laws are rubbished but those people are flourishing (muslims/non muslims) so please don't call this a punishment and think about how much have you contributed to the society to stop/tackle these issues if you believe in the divine law.
Were the people who died Hindus? No Muslim would consume alcohol on Eid day.
Classic example of on the spot punishment for breaking the divine laws!
