Reckless driving: Seven killed, 20 injured as vehicles collide

NAWABSHAH: Seven people died and 20 others were injured when a passenger bus rammed into a van on Bypass Road on Tuesday. Police said the bus was going from Karachi to Bannu. The victims were identified as Saiqa, Fareeda, Molvi Haneef Qureshi, Nawaz Ali Shah, Himat Ali Chandio, Hakim Ali and Zahid Ali. Twenty people also suffered injuries in the accident. They were rushed to Peoples Medical College Hospital Nawabshah, where medical superintendent Dr Hashim Langah declared emergency. DSP Nawabshah Aijaz Tareen along with some policemen reached the hospital and donated blood. Many citizens also gave blood at the hospital. Taking notice of the accident, SSP Nawabshah Javed Jaskani suspended traffic sergeant Hameed Jalbani and demoted him from an inspector to a sub-inspector. He also suspended taluka police station SHO Ali Nawaz Mallah. Eyewitnesses said the van driver was reckless. Drivers of both bus and van fled after the accident.
