MIRAMSHAH: At least six suspected militants were killed in a US drone strike in North Waziristan Agency near the border with Afghanistan Sunday evening.

A US pilot-less aircraft fired two missiles at a compound in the Shenkai Narai area of Tehsil Shawal, killing six suspected militants, a security official told The Express Tribune. The attack triggered a huge fire in the compound and the fatalities were completely charred, he added.

Local tribesmen rushed to the site and pulled out the bodies from the rubble of the destroyed compound while a drone continued to hover overhead.

On July 14, two foreign militants were killed when a US drone fired missiles on a motorcycle in the Mosaki area of Mirali Tehsil of North Waziristan Agency. Similarly, 17 suspected militants, including two al-Qaeda operatives and two Punjabi Taliban fighters, were killed in a drone attack on July 3. It was the deadliest drone strike since the PML-N government took over after its convincing victory in the May 11 elections.

On June 7, seven suspected militants were killed and three injured when a US remotely-piloted aircraft targeted a compound in Shawal tehsil of North Waziristan Agency.
