The two injured have been taken to the hospital, while shopkeepers in the locality have shut down all neighbouring shops as a protest.
New Karachi is now also engulfed in the ever increasing trend of bhatta collection, while the Bhatta mafia is still operating in the month of Ramazan.
Shopkeepers refusing to succumb to the bhatta mafia are brought to an example by firing and grenade attacks.
More than 800 bhatta slips ranging from Rs100 to Rs5,000 have been received throughout Karachi in the month of Ramazan, Express News correspondent Wasiq Mehmood reported.

The Bhatta collectors were from Peoples Aman Committee.
Bhatta collection mafia ... you mean MQM. Please call a spade a spade and don't beat about the bush.
What does the mayor has anything to do with this? These things have been happening in Karachi since 1990 and happened when Mustafa Kamal was the mayor. UP more (and North Karachi) is where MQM recieved record votes in all elections. I have lived in North Karachi for 15 years and I can tell you that it is MQM that gives these extortion slips to the shop ownere.
@Aamir - Toronto: What change? Pls read my comments to the editorial

@H, I hope our Mayor is not gonna be for rabitha commiteeeeeeeeeee.
@Ayesha Malik what a changaa maan.
@Aysha M
What a surprised change, I hope this wouldn't land you in hot water.
@Aysha M: Ofcourse give 'our' mayor all the powers and we will not bother with any bhattas/target killings. Fantastic.
Divide karachi in 5 districts, bring 5 nazims so that every community have their own unbiased representatives, with policing under nazims.. 5 small districts easier to manage...
They report this like it's a new thing here in Karachi. There's probably dozens of cases like it every week
@khalid: my lucky day!
@Hammad M: Its just the beginning, you will soon gain more insight through dialectics. Thanks to ET for this opportunity
@Ayesha M, Glad to see a comment from you which is not in support of MQM...May be the Mayor should be from MQM........
@Aysha M: For once, i agree with your suggestion. Plus, the police should not be pressurized politically.
Up more is in north karachi btw. Just a heads up.
Beefed up local policing under directly elected mayor is the only solution to this menace
