KARACHI: An employee of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) attempted suicide in front of the executive director’s office on Monday after he was ‘forcibly’ expelled from his government quarters. Four days ago, the JPMC administration allegedly evacuated Muhammad Zulfiqar - who has been serving in the general surgery ward-2 of the hospital as a dresser for the past 20 years - and his family from their house to allot this quarter to another employee, he claimed. Losing hope, Zulfiqar attempted to commit suicide by taking pesticides and cutting his body with blades. He was rushed to the emergency ward by his co-workers and he survived. Later, he told the media that he had supported the protest demonstration of doctors few months back against the administration after which it turned against him and forcibly expelled him and his family from the official quarters.
