RAWALPINDI:

A scuffle broke out between two teachers when a junior lecturer claimed she was the new principal at the Government Kohinoor Girls College on Saturday.

After Prof. Rukhsana Shaheen’s retirement, the Punjab government had appointed Prof. Bushra Ajmal as the principal on July 16. But a junior lecturer, Nadra Shaheen, holding a notification of her appointment as principal signed by the Punjab higher education secretary, reportedly asked Prof Ajmal to vacate the office.

Another lecturer, who witnessed the whole episode, told The Express Tribune requesting anonymity that Nadra misbehaved with Prof Ajmal, manhandled her and locked her in the office, when the latter refused to budge.

Prof. Ajmal confirmed the incident and said that she had been appointed the college principal by the provincial government but Nadra disputed her appointment. “Nadra’s misbehaviour was tantamount to challenging the authority of the government and I’ll take up the issue with senior officials,” she added.

When contacted, Punjab Higher Education Secretary Farhan Aziz Khawaja expressed ignorance about the incident. “Right now I don’t know what is going on in the girls’ college, but I will look into the matter on Monday and conduct an inquiry.”
