Addressing the press conference alongside PPPP President and senior party leader Amin Fahim, Rabbani said that he hoped the forthcoming presidential elections will allow Pakistan to become a "true federal state".
The presidential elections are scheduled to be held on August 6.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has already shortlisted six names for the post.
The ECP has stipulated July 24 as the last date to submit presidential nomination papers. The tenure of President Asif Ali Zardari comes to an end on Septermber8, 2013
Fahim had earlier expressed concerns over holding the presidential elections before due time.
President Zardari has already announced that he will not contest the next presidential election for a second successive term.
