ISLAMABAD: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced to distribute 2,400 tons of food among 30,000 Pakistani families displaced by floods and military operations and living in camps.

The initiative was taken on the directives of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan.

Food parcels - each weighing 80 kilogrammes - will contain flour, rice, sugar, salt, lentils and tea. The package will be enough to feed a single family for the whole month.

The food - worth over $1.5 million - will be distributed among the displaced families in Jalozai camp.

The camp is considered the largest refugee settlement in Pakistan and hosts about 13,600 displaced families.
