Earlier, the CID police arrested two alleged terrorists, Nazrab Khan and Ghulam Ishaq Mehsud, on June 22, for their alleged involvement in the bomb attacks on the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s offices in Azizabad, Peoples Chowrangi and Orangi Town during the elections. On Saturday after an identification parade at the court of the judicial magistrate, Mohammad Afzal Roshan, the two terrorists made a swift escape from the city courts while the CID police was taking them back to the armoured personnel carrier.
Following the escape, the police arrested the six CID personnel for their negligence. The police registered FIR No. 61/13 under sections 223 (escape from confinement of custody negligently suffered by public servant), 224 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension), 225-A (Omission to apprehend, or sufferance of escape, on part of public servant), of the Pakistan Penal Code against the inspectors, Islam Gul and Hameedullah, and four constables, Sohail, Ijaz, Hakeem, Zafar, at the city courts police station.
On Sunday, the arrested police officers were produced before judicial magistrate in district south, Hatim Aziz Solangi, who remanded the suspects’ physical custody to police for two days until July 16.
City court police officials said that the investigation was at its preliminary level.
The CID personnel were apparently involved in helping the Taliban flee but nothing was certain until the investigations were complete, said an officer. “Besides punishment, these CID personnel would also be dismissed from service if they are found guilty,” said City Courts police SHO Mohammad Iqbal. “There is no relief for anyone.”
