LAHORE:

Sixteen special teams have been formed in the nine towns of the city to take action against shops found selling gutka (crushed betel nut).

As many as 200 gutka bundles have so far been seized from Anarkali.

District Coordination Officer Naseem Sadiq, who on Thursday reviewed a report about the crackdown, said that citizens’ health was the City District Government of Lahore’s priority.

The district administration has imposed Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code to ban the sale and storage of gutka.

“The constant use of gutka has destroyed many lives in Karachi. The CDGL will save the lives of Lahore’s citizens by conducting the crackdown,” said Sadiq.

Last year, the city government outlawed sheesha smoking in public, launching raids on several businesses. Meanwhile, it has made no effort to curb cigarette smoking in public places.
