Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan of the Lahore High Court on Thursday suspended government’s contract with the Lahore Parking Company (LPC) for seven days and ordered the local government secretary to probe into the matter.
Justice Khan issued the order on a petition by Sheikh Manzoor who submitted through Advocate Abid Saqi that the LPC could not be given the contract for parking stands’ administration. He said LPC was only authorised to regulate and supervise the award of contracts.
Instead, he said the government had awarded the contract to the company for an unlimited period. He said the government should invite bids for awarding parking lots contracts.
The judge suspended the contract for seven days and ordered the local government secretary to inquire into the matter and resolve it within the period. With these directions the judge disposed of the petition.
