FAISALABAD:

The police on Thursday arrested two women and recovered a newborn abducted from the district headquarters hospital a day ago.

Investigation SSP Abdul Hameed Khoso told a press conference that Gurya, a gypsy woman, had visited Shahbaz Ali’s house in Hajveri Town and told his wife Rehana Bibi that she could receive Rs15,000 by reporting her new baby at the DHQ hospital.

Rehana Bibi, who had gave birth to a boy five days ago handed the child over to Gurya and sent her relative, Ayesha Bibi, with her.

“At DHQ hospital, Gurya called an accomplice, Saba, who took the baby with her, saying that she would return it after showing it to the authorities,” the SSP said. When Saba did not return for a while, Ayesha raised an alarm and security guards at the hospital detained Gurya and handed her over to Sargodha Road police. Gurya led police to her accomplice.

Khoso said that Sargodha Road SHO Javaid Iqbal and Investigation Officer Naeem Adil arrested the culprit and recovered the child. A police officer speaking on condition of anonymity said that the gypsy women were working for a gang that sold the children abroad.
