SWABI: An extortionist posing as a member of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was arrested by Swabi police during a raid just after midnight in Kalu Khan, on Wednesday.

According to District Police Officer (DPO) Mian Saeed, the culprit Nadeem Hussain had demanded a sum of Rs5 million as extortion from a local doctor. The doctor complained to the police despite being threatened of dire consequences.  Saeed further said a police official in plain clothes was deployed for the doctor’s protection but Hussain would still contact him by phone from different numbers. “We had to work really hard for almost a month but finally we tracked down his mobile phone data which led us to some other men who revealed Hussain’s whereabouts,” Saeed said.

According to the DPO, during interrogation, the accused said he had been incurring losses in the printing business which is why he was forced to resort to extortion. Saeed added Hussain, in his threats to the doctor, had claimed he was from the TTP, however, police could not verify the information.
