FAISALABAD:

A man was arrested on Tuesday for killing his wife in Jhang Bazaar.

Police said Muhammad Akram, a resident of Bao Wala, Jhang Road, killed the women when his daughter, Iram, 20, refused to live with her in-laws.

Police said Iram was married to Naveed, a resident of Naya Lahore, six months ago but Iram had left her in-laws’ house to return to living with her parents.

After she left the house, Naveed and his relatives called a panchayat through which Akram was pressured to send his daughter back to her in-laws. Police said Akram promised to send his daughter on Sunday, but she refused to comply.

Police said Akram’s wife, Shahnaz, too, refused to send Iram back.

Abdul Ghafoor, a neighbour of Akram, said, “Akram injured the women…he hit them with a sharp weapon.”

“When Akram was hitting them several neighbours gathered in front of his house.”

He said the neighbours tried to save the women but they were already seriously injured. Akram fled the scene.

The women were taken to Allied Hospital, Faisalabad, where they later died.

Jhang Bazaar SHO later said the police had arrested Muhammad Akram.

He said the weapon used in the assault had also been recovered.

“The bodies of the deceased have been sent to a mortuary…further action would be taken when the post mortem examination report is available,” he added.

Meanwhile, Akram told the media that he was not “ashamed” of what he had done.

“My wife and daughter disgraced me before the entire village,” he said.
