Power generation: Keyal Khwar project under way

Upon completion Keyal Khwar Hydropower project will contribute 426 million units of electricity annually.

ISLAMABAD: The construction of a Rs109.322 million Keyal Khwar Hydropower project will generate 122 megawatts (mw) of electricity and benefit the national economy by Rs3.5 billion per annum. According to the Water and Power Development Authority documents, physical progress of construction is 40% complete. Upon completion the Keyal Khwar Hydropower project will contribute 426 million units of low-cost electricity to the national grid annually. Germany granted €77 million for the project under a loan agreement and another €20 million in a supplementary loan agreement. Detailing of the engineering design and pre-qualification of firms for civil and electro-mechanical works is under process and is likely to be completed soon, revealed documents.
