Roadside explosion: IED blast in Jamrud, no loss reported

The device exploded when there was no traffic.

JAMRUD: An improvised explosive device (IED) planted by unidentified militants on the Pak-Afghan Highway in Jamrud tehsil went off on Friday morning.

Fortunately, no loss was reported in the explosion. Political administration official Asmatullah Wazir said a huge explosion was heard at around 9:15am, following which khasadar officials deployed at Teddy Bazaar rushed to the site. Wazir added the militants may have planted the device to target khasadar officials or containers carrying supplies to and from Nato troops stationed in Afghanistan. However, the device exploded when there was no traffic, he added. Bomb disposal squad (BDS) officials said five kilogrammes of explosives were used in the device. No arrests were made till the filing of this report.
