KARACHI:

Teachers at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (Fuuast) staged a sit-in outside the vice-chancellor’s office to protest against what they termed a delay in the elections of their committee that appoints teacher representatives to the university’s statutory forums, on Monday.

The Fuuast charter demands that elections for the two-member nominating committee be held every three years, said an assistant professor, Dr Iftikhar Ahmed Tahiri, while talking to The Express Tribune.  He added that the last elections were held on April 3, 2010, requiring them to be held again on April 3 this year.

Meanwhile, the university administration plans to hold the elections on July 2, claimed the registrar Dr Fahimuddin. He failed, however, to explain why the administration had not issued official notification, which was due three weeks prior to holding the elections as per university rules, till Monday.
