Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Dost Muhammad Khan has urged the political and military leadership to be ‘self accountable’ and take action against those involved in corrupt practices.
Justice Khan said this would set an example for others, so they think twice before indulging in corruption. The CJ pointed out corruption has been the root cause for a majority of the problems faced by the country.
The comments were made at a ceremony to distribute laptops among judges as a reward for their performance.
In his address the chief justice stated the country has been confronted with immense challenges.
In CJ Khan’s opinion, political and military leaderships had one last opportunity to initiate accountability, and bring an end to corruption and favouritism as the country’s survival was at stake.

The current crisis is the result of the previous government’s poor policies, he said, adding the country faced a major financial crisis.
Those in power should decrease expenditure and take steps so the impoverished are provided maximum relief.
CJ Khan went on to say criminals are hardly punished because of the poor performance of investigation agencies and the prosecution. Training sessions for the latter will be held at the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy with assistance from the United Kingdom, Germany and other developed countries.
