‘Encounter’: Police constable killed in shootout

A Sahja police constable, Muhammad Tariq, was hit.

BAHAWALPUR: A police constable was killed on Sunday in a shootout with some men police said were wanted for robbery and drug dealing.

The criminals fled. Police said Assistant Sub Inspector Muhammad Sadiq was informed that Ameen alias Meenu who had recently rented a house in Wahi Hazrat village, where he was living along with some partners. When police raided the house, Ameen and his partners- Khalid, Kareem Bakhsh and three others- started firing on them.

The police shot back. A Sahja police constable, Muhammad Tariq, was hit. He was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Ameen and his partners fled the scene. A case was registered against six men, including Ameen, under the Anti Terrorism Act.
