ISLAMABAD:

A former member of the national assembly is convinced that he will not only be his party’s candidate for the by-elections on a recently vacated national assembly seat, but that he will also win.

However, the former MNA’s optimism is not only causing losses to the national exchequer, but also usurping the due right of newly-elected MNAs.

The ‘lame excuse’ — as it was termed by a recently-elected PTI member of the house — was extended to continue occupation of a suite at Parliament Lodges.

The MP in question is none other than the former federal tourism minister Attaur Rehman, the younger brother of JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman.

Attaur Rehman offered this ‘reason’ in response to a fresh eviction notice served on him by the CDA.

JUI-F leader Haji Ghulam Ali said Rehman would be the party’s candidate for by-elections on NA-27 Lakki Marwat, which was vacated by his brother.

However, JUI-F sources confided that there was resentment among senior party leadership over the plan to award a ticket to Rehman. “It will be decided in a party meeting next week,” said a senior party leader.

Rehman is the only former MP who has not yet vacated his suite at the lodges. He was not available for comment.
