Dr Fouzia briefed the Interior Minister about various steps relating to Aafia’s detention in the United States and the various steps by the previous government to secure her release from American prison.
She said that the previous government’s efforts have failed to bear fruitful results. She requested the Minister for renewed efforts to secure her sister’s release.
Khan said that he would call a special meeting on the issue and assured Dr Fouzia that all possible support and efforts for ensuring Dr Aafia’s release will be made.

@unbelievable:
Pious Pakistanis like to day dream a lot. It brings them closer to God :)
She is a terrorist and needs no sympathy...I do not know why Pakistan is so eager in bringing back the terrorist to the country.. Pakistan is a strange country where Malala is a terrorist and Afia is a heroine..
Same politics like PPP Blay Blay, protect Terrorist. good luck Pakistan
I agree with Anonymous as if we don't have enough terrorists already to get more back....I am just so sick of the Siddiqui sisters trying to gain sympathies...they should have known their place before going out for jihad!
There are dozens of other Pakistanis convicted of terrorism (like Afia), felony, fraud and other crimes serving time in jail. Why isn't the Pak establishment showing the same level of "concern" to get these terrorists and criminals back to Pakistan?
@Anonymous who:
She is a proven jihadist. She associated with salafi leaning MSA in MIT, whose members were inspired by blind Egyptian sheikh who master minded/inspired first NY bombing in 1993. She was given due process of the law before being convicted. interior minister should be concerned about the security situation in Pakistan.
@Anonymous who: Please then tell us just what "no crime" she was convicted of in an open court in America!!!
@Anonymous Aafia Siddiqui is innocent, her case is an example of deliberate injustice. Now they are afraid that if she is released and talks to media, or writes a book, it will cause another embarrassment for the biggest champion of women rights and a lot of questions will be raised regarding their injustice system.
@Anonymous cowardness: If those terrorists have not killed anyone and are wrongly imprisoned, then we should be debating why they’re terrorists in the first place.
I guess in Pakistan police don't arrest any one who is ready to blow up himself and kill few other Pakistani Muslims with him. Has government of Pakistan tried to investigate life of this terrorist woman?
Her ex-husband accused Siddiqui of being abusive and manipulative throughout their seven years of marriage He also said that Siddiqui had a violent personality and extremist views, leading him to suspect her of involvement in jihadi activities.
If FBI had arrested Boston bombers when Russians told them to keep a watch on them, lives could have been saved and then pakis will be saying look USA arrested 2 innocent Muslims in Boston.
@ {It Is (still) Economy Stupid}
"In most A grade democratic countries the Minister will refuse to meet the family of a convicted terrorist for political fall out and for associating with the wrong crowd."
And Yet Your Indian Govt. have Brotherly terms with Israel.
All of the above. You mean aafia is terrorist. is that it? what a cowardice!
Instead of freeing criminals, PMLN should concentrate more on arresting, and prosecuting them.
@Anonyomous: Can't say about "terrorists" but with the amount of blatant ignorance showed in your comment, and your attempt to tie terrorists with the case of Afia Siddique, speaks volumes about you. Please do this country a service and take a one-way ticket out of here.
@Anonymous: Your blunt tagging of a woman who has done no crime as a "terrorist" speaks enough of your intellectual capability, to the extent that your comment is worthless and a minority view.
I thought PML N would take some quick steps in all fields but I am not seeing a bit difference between what Rehman Malik used to say and what Ch. Nisar is saying.
I would request media to give more attention to KPK and compare the PTI government with Punjab government so that the people may know the truth!
@Anonymous cowardness: Read the full article. Our hyper-nationalistic media has not exactly been forthright on this issue.

Rubbish. The Pakistani govt has no ability to negotiate a return of Aafia Siddiqui - in fact Obama himself couldn't get her returned unless he granted her Presidential pardon which would never happen. It's past time that the Pakistan govt quit making chest thumping/unrealistic pronouncements and started treating it's citizens as adults who can understand harsh realities when given facts.
@Anonymous: If those terrorists have not killed anyone and are wrongly imprisoned, then we should be debating why they're terrorists in the first place.
Is there a race going on between political parties to see who can better champion a convicted terrorist?
I can challenge interior Minister Nisar he cannot get the release of Dr. Aafia. Their is no law that would allow US to oblige PMLN on that, so please stop playing.
In most A grade democratic countries the Minister will refuse to meet the family of a convicted terrorist for political fall out and for associating with the wrong crowd.
Yes, while you're at it, please request release of all other terrorists held in American jails, and have them sent back to Pakistan. After all, our country has become very safe lately and could use a few of these terrorists.
