Violence round-up: MQM man among six killed

Six people, including a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), were shot dead in separate acts of violence in the city on Thursday.


A worker of the MQM, Kaleem alias Commando, was shot dead near Islam Chowk, Orangi Town, within the remits of the Pakistan Bazaar police station.

SHO Basheer Hussain said that the victim was going on his motorcycle when unidentified men opened fire on him and fled. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy and later handed over to his heirs.  The SHO said that the victim was earlier jailed in a murder case.

Garden police found two bullet-riddled bodies near Dhobi Ghat. Police took the bodies to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medico-legal formalities, where the victims were identified as 55-year-old Abdul Wahid Memon, and his 18-year-old son, Bilal Memon. They were residents of Shoe Market, Garden. Police said that the men were targeted while they were on their way home after shutting down their mobile shop in Bakra Piri, Lyari.

Kalri police found the body of a man tortured to death on Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Road, Lyari. Police moved the body to the morgue for identification after an autopsy at the CHK.

Forty-year-old Rashid, son of Anwar Ali, was gunned down near Kutiyana Memon Hospital, Kharadar, within the remits of the Baghdadi police station. Police said that the victim was deputed at the DIG East office as a peon and the incident occurred when he was returning home after performing his duty.

Sohrab Goth police found the tortured body of a young man near the Total petrol pump. Police said that the victim was identified as Noor Hussain. He was a resident of Afghan Basti and hailed from Waziristan.
