KARACHI: Seven people, including two political workers, were gunned down in separate acts of violence in the city on Tuesday.

A 38-year-old man was shot dead in Agra Taj Colony, Lyari. The victim was identified as Waseem Sadiq, a worker of Muttahida Qaumi Movement. Kalri SHO Haji Sanaullah said the victim had come to the area to visit someone when at least two armed men fired at him. Sadiq succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and initial investigation suggests that he was killed over his political affiliation, he added.

A leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party was shot dead in Musharraf Colony in Mauripur. Ashiq Hussain, 38, was shot multiple times and died at the spot. SHO Shafiq Tanoli said that the deceased was sitting outside his son’s snooker club when two armed men fired at him. Tanoli said that the motive behind the killing could be the victim’s property business.

The law and order situation in Garden also deteriorated and commercial activities were partially suspended following tit-for-tat killings. Two mechanics came under attack in Usmanabad - one of them Shaukat Ali was killed while another Shahzad, was injured. A little while later, unidentified men killed Shahjahan, aka Badshah Khan, in Lashkari Village. DSP Zahid Hussai said that Khan was father of one of the motorcyclists who attacked the mechanics. An extra contingent of law enforcers was deployed in the area to keep the situation from spiraling out of control.

In a separate incident, a factory owner was shot dead in SITE for resisting a robbery attempt. The police said that Abdul Naeem and his wife had come to Karachi from Hyderabad for their son’s treatment. The couple was intercepted in SITE by robbers, who took away Naeem’s wife’s jewelry after shooting him dead.

In a separate act of violence, a labourer was shot dead in a targeted attack near Banaras Chowk within the Pirabad police limits. The police said that Adam Khan, 29, was called to the area by a person named Afzal and was later shot by two unidentified men. Police suspects personal enmity as the motive behind the incident.

In another incident, a man was shot over unexplained reason in Liaquatabad. Police said that Kamran Saeed, 28, was on headed somewhere on his motorcycle when he was killed by unidentified assailants.
