District Police Officer Mian Muhammad Saeed told The Express Tribune that vaccinators administering polio drops in Swabi district would be allowed to carry weapons to defend themselves.
“This will be only for the vaccinators for the duration till the campaign lasts,” he said, adding that both male and female workers will have permits for weapons issued to them.
Saeed further said that around 20 suspects had been rounded up after the incident in Topi, as it was not the first time health workers had been targeted in the area.
“We are trying to establish a link between the attacks, hopefully there will be breakthrough this time.”

Who came up with this brilliant idea? Have we gone completely mad?
Very nice. I think we should recruit ninjas as Polio workers. This will deter the terrorists
Give weapon to every pakistani as all of us are facing threat in performing our duties in peaceful manner.
@Asad:
Better than not having any 'random guys' left to vaccinate them
People like you seem to have a problem with everything. The government doesn't do anything to prevent attacks like this - you have a problem. The government issues licenses to workers for self-protection - you have a problem. Are you ever going to be satisfied with anything? Shameful.
There are few people as selfless and brave as polio vaccine administers in Pakistan today. I honestly don't know how they muster up the courage.
very sad. these high headed people wanted to play with lives of their kids. for God sake, have pity on innocent souls. which part of islam taught you punishing your kids for mistake of someone else and killing another muslim thus making other nations making fun of all muslims. GoP and UNICEF should consider different strategy. Ask parents to come to city/town hubs to get vaccination instead of door to door. If some kid is missed, his father and TTP should be answerable to Allah. Beware.
Say whaaaaaaat?? Kids will be thrilled to see random guys with WEAPONS giving them Polio drops...
Well done. Now we are going to have OK Corral style showdowns. They need to find where Doc Holliday and his boys are.
