Fashion Police: The velvet lace disaster

Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine is one of our favourite vocalists — her powerful voice has won everyone’s hearts. The singer has always had a bold and daring taste in fashion. However, this look she sported at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition last week is not working for us. Sigh!

Hair

We love Florence’s killer red hair and there’s so much she could’ve done with it; a funky hairdo or a nice blow dry would’ve been cool. However, the star singer chose to go completely old school in terms of her hair. She tied it up and braided it giving herself a completely medieval look. This is the red carpet honey, not Game of Thrones!

Make-up

Okay, so we might give the Cosmic Love singer some points for her subtle make-up and red lipstick. We just wish that she would’ve applied some eyeliner to bring out her beautiful eyes. Her make-up, complimented by her hair, makes her look too Siamese for our taste! And how can we forget her oh-so-dreadful nails?! The blackish purple nail polish is just horrifying.

Accessories

Why so many rings? One or two would’ve been fine. And that clutch! Why in the world is there a face on it? We get it. It’s very chic. But unfortunately, it isn’t doing anything for the look she is aiming for.

Outfit

What is that? A nightgown? A costume from a Shakespearean play? Or did she fetch it out from her grandmother’s closet? This velvet lacey dress is by far the worst decision the singer has made till date. We get it, she likes to experiment. But not to this extent! This floral velvet ensemble is too old school for our taste.

Shoes

Probably the only thing she got right. These heels have earned Florence points in this category.

Bail out!

Beyonce



Crazy in Love singer Beyonce looks stunning in this net over silk velvet gown. The talented diva was spotted wearing this at the Sound of Change concert in London. Her long flowing hair and light make-up make her look sexy and cute at the same time.

Angelina Jolie



The actor was spotted wearing this velvet slit gown at the Oscars last year. And we must say she looks SIZZLING! Angie paired her sexy gown with a pair of black heels. Her streaked hair and red lipstick just proves why people think she is one of the sexiest women on earth.

Salma Hayek



Hayek looks bold and beautiful in this gold and black navy blue velvet gown paired with a golden clutch. At first, we weren’t sure about her hair but this daring look makes her stand out and compliments her gladiator-like dress perfectly.
