A three member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will hear the case on Friday.
Notices were also sent to the Attorney General and officials of the Oil Gas and Regulatory Authority.
The CJP took suo moto on the SC registrar’s note.

You know Mr.CJ your inept lower judiciary required your Suo-moto attention. It seems you have the luxury of lot time to think on irrelevant things.
Congratulations PML-N. This is the first taste of your own medicine. Though in COD it was decided not to appoint any PCO judge. You did it now face it. Let me mention here that this PCO Chief Justice will get an extension of 18 months as per petition filed in a mini Supreme Court (LHC). Now face classical music for another more than two years until he also pulls you down as he did with other Prime Ministers. Good Luck - Bad Luck.
the headline should have been - CJP to sell petrol and gas from SC.
Good work CJ. You did not let PPP to govern the country and implement their policies and PML-N supported you in this dirty game. Now PML-N will face this dirty game. Keep it up CJ
again with due apology........it feels like TOM & JERRY between Supreme Court and the Executive......... will never end this........ and the public keeps on enjoying.
with due apology.......CJP also wants to remain in NEWS.......... suo moto every 2nd day.
Mr. Chief Justice, you should concentrate on lower judiciary rather than taking suo motos of petroleum prices. It is the domain of elected government and it has not been a week and you have started to bother them. For God sake, leave them to implement their plan and please don't meddle in their affairs. 80% of the people in jails are not convicted and their cases are pending. Now this is your foremost job to do. Concentrate on lower judiciary where justice is sold.
Now thats a Guiness world record. CJP's remarks appear in the newspapers's main headlines almost on daily basis. I think this nation pays him handsomely to provide justice and nothing else. For him, I would say, Charity begins at home.
Whenever this PCO CJ sees his pictures and name fading in the media he takes a suo moto. He is just a paid servant like others but has been acting during the last five years as the Master of the nation and has been running a parallel government and has kept the parliament and so the people of Pakistan at his toes. Although, Nawaz has taken full advantage of the so-called "free judiciary" yet in order to strengthen the Parliament and democracy he should get a law passed restricting the power of suo-moto only to three infallibles affecting the person or persons directly i.e. life, property and honour as envisaged by Islam.
Nawaz is PM despite various charges some one needs to take suo motto against CJ.
New title for him - Chief Economist of Pakistan.
This thing that you have running in Pakistan IS NOT democracy !! Every organ of the state is trying to outdo the other in trying to show who has the most power. Pakistan's judiciary is trying to be something it has no right to be. But then, this is the malaise of the Islamic world, for some inexplicable reason. Turkey which was touted as the beacon of democracy in the Muslim world is proving to be anything but.
It's a disease mandated by the constitution. Parliament needs to cure it.
Once again interfering in govt and parliaments work.
People just voted for a new parliament, let them make decisions to run the country. This suo moto is highly condemnable and unacceptable on all levels
CJ has absolute right to look after masses rightly or wrongly as he did for sugar and wheat in previous government
Now the CJ has become the country's chief petroleum products dealer. This is another example of activism-gone-wild. The new parliament should define the constraints for judiciary, before the CJ totally destroys the concept of rule of law. Siddique Malik, Louisville, Kentucky, USA.
Are you an elected member of the parliament? If not then who gave you this right?
take suo moto on KARACHI strikes
I thought CJ's term was finishing this month.
It appears everyone is more interested in what someone else is doing rather than fixing problems in their own domain. :) Who is there to take suo-moto notice of cases that are languishing for years in the judiciary without any resolution whatsoever? Isn't justice delayed, justice denied? And if so then who holds the can for that? This whole affair is fast becoming a case of showmanship.
