LAHORE:

Scores of residents of Township on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration against up to 18 hours of unscheduled power outages in front of the Lahore Electric Supply Company’s (Lesco) Green Town sub-division office.

The pre-monsoon rain on Tuesday had caused breakdowns in several areas in the City. A Lesco spokesperson said a large number of electricity feeders had tripped because of the rain. “We didn’t vote for the new government for this…we are helpless and can do nothing except protest in front of the (Lesco) office,” said Rubina Bibi, a resident of Township. “The unannounced load shedding has forced us to come out on the streets…there is no electricity or water,” said another protestor, Maryam.

The protest ended when residents were assured by Lesco that the matter would soon be resolved.
