ISLAMABAD:

The federal chapter of Young Doctors Association (YDA) on Wednesday staged a protest against salary delays. They have given Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) administration a three-day ultimatum to resolve the issue failing which all young doctors will withdraw their services from the outpatient departments.

YDA federal chapter Chairperson Dr Muhammad Haroon said there were over 800 house officers and post-graduate trainees at Pims, whose salaries were delayed by 15-20 days every month. He added that nurses and paramedic staff were paid on the first of each month.

“This is injustice, everyone should be treated equally. Due to this delay we are unable to pay our utility bills on time,” he said. Haroon said that the Pims administration had not paid heed to their complaints over the past three months. When contacted, Pims administrator Professor Dr Iqbal Memon said that the Accountant General Pakistan Revenue would be releasing all pending hospital dues within a week, after which the salaries will be given.

“Going on strike is not a solution to the problem, they are always trying to blackmail us,” he said.
