At least 442 officers in the federal bureaucracy were deputed, terminated and promoted during the caretaker administration’s rule, the Supreme Court (SC) was told on Thursday.
The three member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, was hearing a petition filed by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif. The court is expected to issue its judgment in the case on Monday.
The SC, in an earlier order, had suspended all transfers, postings and deputations by the caretaker government.
Meanwhile, hearing another petition against the appointment of Salman Farooqi as federal ombudsman, the bench noted that the office of the principal secretary to the prime minister had not submitted its reply to the court on the appointment. The court ordered the principal secretary’s office to furnish a reply and adjourned the proceedings till June 10.
Meanwhile, hearing a contempt of court petition against former caretaker prime minister, Mir Hazar Khan Khoso, a three-member bench of the SC rejected the plea of the former premier requesting the court to discharge the contempt notice.
The bench has now directed the principal secretary to the prime minister to submit summaries along with relevant record, on the transfers of 22 federal secretaries.
The bench will resume hearing in the case on June 20.
