MULTAN:

“Multan has not been included in the anti measles campaign, because the situation in the district is under control,” Executive District Officer (Health) Dr Iftikhar Qureshi said on Tuesday.

He was talking to reporters about an update on the campaign.

He said two to three cases were being reported at hospitals every day. He said the situation was much better than that in Lahore. He said separate measles wards had been set up at Nishtar Hospital, Children’s Complex, Civil Hospital and district headquarters hospitals.

He said only one measles patient had died in Multan district so far. Some 300 cases had been reported since January. To a question about gastroenteritis, the EDO said that only watery diarrhoea was dangerous since patients got dehydrated in two to three hours.

Every dysentery case should not be treated as gastroenteritis, he added.
